No Man's Land

There are a lot of times in which I feel I am alone in my thoughts about parenting.

The only licensed clothing (Disney, Thomas the Train . . .) The Bear has he got as gifts. If he's not asking for Mickey Mouse, I'm not going to pay extra for him to advertise. He does wear the clothing he gets as presents though. I'm not going to waste free clothes.

I only let The Bear watch cartoons on PBS. I was completely anti-cartoons. I personally didn't like them as a kid and they still seem dumb to me. I waited until he was about 14 months before I let him watch any. Curious George is the only show he really gets to see on a semi regular basis.

I do want to go on family vacation to Disney World though. I don't want him to be the freak 17 year old who has no clue about pop culture. I would love to take him to Sesame Place this year or next summer. I know he won't get the characters, but it's the experience of going to a place like that.

It's hard for me to find a balance . . . and people that are supportive of my opinions. I have a feeling this isn't going to be the last time I meet this battle though.

Finding a balance is tough--especially when you feel like no one around you parents like you. I know exactly how that feels. I don't even want to go to Disney World! ;)

I feelthe same way! I'm ont into the clothes or the shoes. I just don't like them. My son is 4 so he likes to watch cartoons when he eats his breakfast (he didn't watch them at all until a little over 2) but I only let him watch sprout, pbs and disney.

A lot of parents don't understand why I'm so strict about it. I don't think I am but they do.

I guess it's to each their own.

My parents were super protective of me. I wasn't allowed to watch kid cartoons like Rugrats because of the attitude, or Full House because of the men living together. I think I turned out okay, and prefer it to the amount of stuff some of my Kindergartners had already been exposed to!

I am going to be the same way. I hate seeing kids raised on tv. Ick.

My parents didn't let us watch tv and we turned out okay. My hubby was raised on it and watched The Simpsons every Sunday for as long as he could remember (like, when he was 5). Totally inappropriate. It's going to be a battle when we have kids though....

I wasn't allowed to watch The Simpsons or Roseanne or any of those shows. The funny thing is I still feel guilty if I happen to see any of those shows.

Oh man, if you came to my house you'd be appaled by the Dora The Explorer paraphenelia. The thing is, I don't even knwo WHERE she saw her first episode. Whichever the case, she was hooked immediately and spotted everything "Dora" anywhere we went. We figured since she doesn't like toys, it won't be too much harm to let her be a fan of something.

By the way, thank you so much for taking the time and coming over to say hello and leave me some love :-). I really appreciate it.

Have a good weekend!

And....may I say "congrats!"?
